FORESTA brings together images made between 2019 and 2021 and grows out of repeated encounters with the woodland, approached not as natural scenery but as a space to be crossed and read. The weave of trunks, sudden clearings, low vegetation and fallen matter forms an architecture without a centre, shaped by rhythms, thresholds and discontinuities.
Light acts as a principle of orientation. It surfaces in fragments, opens temporary depths and reveals surfaces destined to return to shadow. Held within a dark, dense register, colour removes the landscape from straightforward description and transforms green into perceptual matter.
The human figure remains outside the frame, yet the body is continuously implicated: in the scale of the trees, the resistance of the undergrowth and the uncertainty of each passage. Every image records a position while acknowledging the difficulty of establishing a definitive viewpoint within an organism that exceeds the gaze.
FORESTA extends Fabio Oggero’s research into the relationship between space, matter, memory and transformation beyond the built environment. The woodland emerges as a living construction in which growth and decay, permanence and change coexist. Photography occupies the space between document and abstraction: rather than mapping the site, it conveys the experience of a territory that takes form and withdraws at the same moment.
